Letten Park

Paul Bauer of Grün Stadt Zürich and Stephen Rotzler transformed an old rail line corridor to an ecological park along the Limmat river in Zürich, Switzerland. The city was looking to develop more recreation opportunities for their growing urban population. The site, about one hectare, was restored to provide critical habitat for various flora and fauna, specifically for sand and wall lizards which became the target species. Habitat for humans and nature were considered equal priorities in the project and the designers wanted to open up nature conservation to the public eye. The river system is integral to the city, its residents, and its wildlife.
