Orongo Station Conservation Project

A large scale ecological restoration project that involved controlling invasive species such as weasels and opposums. The project provided habitat for a diversity of seabirds through an understanding of native plant communities and hydrological regimes. The 3,000 acre sheep farm designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz was completed in 2012 and is located in Poverty Bay, New Zealand. The land has been transformed from a overgrazed, barren landscape to one that is now ecologically rich with the addition of over 500,000 trees and 75 acres of restored and new saltwater wetlands.
