Landscape Design Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier.

In 1990, West 8 developed the surrounding landscape of the Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier in Zeeland, Neatherlands. The project was lead by Adriaan Geuze and the design incorporates large plateaus of shells which are attractive rest spots for coastal birds. Two colours of shells were arranged in geometric patterns adjacent to the coast. Birds have the choice of landing on either colour based on camouflage considerations, white shells attract white birds and black shells attract black birds.
